When I started working with Barrett, I was on the high end of “normal” weight. I was a very picky eater with a diet full of staples such as pizza, hot dogs, soda, and mac & cheese. My focus was on exercise, not nutrition, because I’d given up on changing my diet long ago. I didn’t even bother to take a “before” photo, because my goal was to increase fitness, not to lose weight. Who needs a photo for that?
But Barrett didn’t give up on me! Through setting specific achievable goals for nutrient intake, growing motivation with weekly check-ins, and building on healthy foods I already liked (hooray for smoothies!), he helped me create a diet that worked for me and was actually sustainable, even with my finicky limited palate. I now also have a much better understanding of how my body responds to what I put into it, so I can make informed choices about what I eat every day. I still have a weakness for the occasional bowl of mac & cheese, but now, thanks to Barrett, I have the tools I need to manage those indulgences within the context of an overall healthy lifestyle. This new approach to nutrition, combined with personal training exercise sessions, has been a genuine transformation for me.
A couple years later and over pounds lighter, I feel 25 years younger! I have energy, muscle tone, and am stronger and in better shape in my late 40s than I have ever been before. And I actually believe I can stay that way. My only regret is the one time I didn’t follow Barrett’s advice — I should’ve taken that “before” photo!

I decided to contact Barret after being in one of the body circuit sessions he was overseeing. What initially caught my attention was how quickly he could think on his feet to accommodate different levels of fitness, both higher or lower, to work in a way that was both doable and challenging to each person.
It’s been just about 8 months since I started working with him, and I have to say the decision to ask for his help was definitely the right one.
The overall focus for me were a couple of things: weight-loss, toning, balancing and building habits for my nutrition, and learning to use the gym machines/exercises. He’s been a coach and also a guide through it all, not to mention a very encouraging cheering-squad all on his own, and it’s honestly been a great experience! Even through a few set-backs in the past few months, he’s been very attentive, receptive of concerns, and mindful to accommodate the focus of the exercises we go through, and well – he’s made the experience of going to the gym a lot more bearable! Specially keeping realistic goals in mind and acknowledging each time it’s been met.
Long story short — Do I recommend him? For sure!
So long as you’re a person who is interested in long term goals, realistic goals, and is willing to put in your own effort. I recommend him as a coach, and as a good source of knowledge for both advice and information on meals and workouts.

I feel better than I ever have! I have always been an avid gym goer. I first reached out to Barrett for a little motivation when I noticed thicker love handles growing as my gym motivation was waning. All I wanted was a workout program I didn’t have to write myself, and someone to call me every week and make sure I did it. I got so much more! I didn’t just get a list of exercises, I got an explanation of the reasoning behind doing them, and doing them a certain way. The recipe for succeeding at the gym is simple. It comes down to two parts. Part one is the motivation that you have from within yourself. The determination to trust the process, work hard and make yourself accountable. Part two is Barrett. He is the ultimate compliment to your own drive. “I’ve been strength training virtually with Barrett since July 2021. Our sessions have been critical to my attempt to build a habit of working out 3-4 days a week. Barrett coaches me on nutrition but is also supportive and non-judgmental in my efforts to pursue non-scale measures for health and fitness. He is responsive to my nerdy fitness questions and he is direct when something isn’t in his wheelhouse. I started working with Barrett in the gym and then about a month later, quarantine hit and I fell right out of the loop of working out. (Which I hadn’t been doing for QUITE some time before that anyway…) When Barrett reached out to me about doing FaceTime sessions, I was definitely nervous because I do not like being bad at things and I had been living a VERY sedentary life, but I can honestly say it was a great decision and I have an adjusted sense of perspective for sure. “I’ve been training with Barrett for almost a year now, 3 days a week. Before I started going to the gym again in June 2019, I’ve hit a low point, I didn’t like where I was living, my work hours were getting to me and I just felt disconnect.
When I moved to Bushwick I saw that my new apartment was blocks away from a Blink and I made the decision to start going to the gym and really start focusing on better myself and put my health first. A couple of months ago I was living a very sedentary lifestyle. I had finished college, gotten a job and my life had turned into a series of sitting in chairs in different locations. From my car to my office chair, back in my car to get home and sit at my desk and repeat all over again the next day. It was getting to the point were going up a flight of stairs was tiring. I always thought about going to a gym, but it seemed overwhelming, and I didn’t really know how to use all the equipment.
Luckly, I found Barrett’s business card at a local barbershop and gave him a call. He was very helpful and patient with me and taught me a lot. From how to use equipment at the gym, to plenty of different exercises, as well as how to pay attention to what I was eating and track calories. I also had some knee problems, and he catered the exercises around that to help with my problem. Now I feel much healthier, stronger, and more comfortable with going to the gym.
Barrett is a fantastic personal trainer. I have been working with him for about 7 months. He really listens to my personal goals, creates workouts that have greatly helped make changes to my body, and he acts as a constant support. I am a seventy year old woman who has just recently received personal training for the first time in my life. I dabbled at going the they gym on my own over the years, but never got anywhere fast. After a double knee replacement five years ago, I was getting concerned by my physical health. I was apprehensive about going down stairs and getting off the floor was a laborious, unsightly job. I was assigned to Barrett and followed him to Rabbit Fitness. I’ve never looked back! My weight training program has slowly but steadily progressed and I can really feel the difference in my body and my outlook. In the beginning, due to my lack of strength, I was a little wobbly. But Barrett is right there spotting me so that I feel secure. Barrett is the best… he encourages and listens, but keeps things moving ahead and keeps you attaining new levels of progression. I like the small and intimate gym without a ton of people looking at you.
I know he trains all levels, young and not so young, and it is encouraging to see more older people here seeking help and direction. He also asks you keep a food journal, which goes hand in hand with fitness and is part of the journey. The other staff are all friendly and competent. I would feel confident with all of them so far. One of them, Lucretia, is also a massage therapist and if you are in luck, she might have her chair available for a session after the workout. It’s heaven!
